Oil Change Options
Not every vehicle needs the same oil. We offer four types of oil service to match your vehicle’s needs, driving habits, and budget:
Conventional Oil Change
Best for older vehicles with high mileage that were designed for conventional oil, and for drivers on tight budgets. Conventional oil is the least expensive option but requires more frequent changes — typically every 3,000-5,000 miles.
Synthetic Blend Oil Change
A mix of conventional and synthetic oil, offering better engine protection and slightly longer service intervals (5,000-7,500 miles) than conventional at a moderate price point. A good choice for most daily drivers.
Full Synthetic Oil Change
Premium synthetic oil offers the best engine protection, works better in extreme temperatures (which matters in a Nebraska Panhandle winter), and extends service intervals to 7,500-10,000 miles or more. Required for most modern vehicles built after 2012 — check your owner’s manual.
High-Mileage Oil Change
Formulated specifically for vehicles with over 75,000 miles, high-mileage oil contains conditioners that help maintain seals and gaskets, reducing oil consumption and leaks. If your older vehicle is burning or leaking oil, this is usually the right choice.
Diesel Oil Change Service
Diesel engines require completely different oil than gas engines — different weight, different additive package, and different service intervals. As Scottsbluff’s dedicated diesel repair shop, we service every diesel platform with the correct oil for the job:
- Ford Powerstroke (6.0, 6.4, 6.7, 7.3): typically 15W-40 diesel-spec oil
- Dodge Ram Cummins (5.9, 6.7): 15W-40 or 5W-40 depending on year and climate
- Chevy/GMC Duramax (LBZ, LLY, LMM, LML, L5P): Dexos-approved diesel oil
Diesel oil change intervals depend on your usage. If you tow, haul, or work your truck hard, we recommend 5,000-mile intervals with quality synthetic diesel oil. Light-duty daily driving can stretch that to 7,500-10,000 miles. Every diesel oil change includes the same free digital vehicle inspection we do on gas vehicles — plus a specific check of your fuel filter, DEF system (on newer diesels), and boost system.
How Often Should You Change Your Oil?
The old “every 3,000 miles” rule is outdated for most modern vehicles. Here’s a better guideline based on your specific situation:
- Modern vehicle, full synthetic, normal driving: 7,500-10,000 miles
- Modern vehicle, synthetic blend, normal driving: 5,000-7,500 miles
- Older vehicle, conventional oil: 3,000-5,000 miles
- Severe conditions (short trips, extreme heat/cold, dusty roads, towing): half the above intervals
- Diesel truck, hard use (towing, hauling): 5,000 miles
- Diesel truck, light use: 7,500-10,000 miles
The best approach: follow your owner’s manual, watch your oil life monitor if your vehicle has one, and check your oil level monthly. When in doubt, ask us — we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s time for a change.
