Every time your vehicle comes into our shop for any service, we test your battery for free as part of our digital vehicle inspection. We don’t sell you a battery you don’t need, and we don’t wait until it fails to warn you. Here’s what our battery test measures:

How Long Should a Car Battery Last?
Battery life depends on climate, usage, and vehicle type:
- Average car battery: 3-5 years
- Vehicles in extreme cold or heat: 2-4 years
- Frequent short trips: 2-4 years (batteries don’t fully recharge on short drives)
- Highway commuters: 4-6 years
- Diesel trucks: 3-5 years per battery (most diesels have TWO batteries)
Nebraska Panhandle winters are hard on batteries. Temperatures below freezing can reduce battery capacity by 30-40%. If your battery is 3+ years old, get it tested before the coldest weather hits.

If your electrical issue is more complex — parasitic draws, intermittent electrical problems, mysterious no-start conditions, or complete system diagnostics — we perform a full electrical diagnostic. Because this work requires specialized equipment, systematic testing procedures, and significant technician time, it is billed at our standard diagnostic rate rather than included free with your visit.
Full electrical diagnostics include:
- Parasitic draw testing — locating what’s drawing current when the vehicle is off (can take 30 minutes to several hours)
- Advanced charging system diagnostics — testing individual alternator diodes, voltage regulator issues, and wiring
- Complete starting system diagnosis — beyond a simple starter test, including cable resistance and voltage drop tests
- Wiring harness diagnosis — tracing shorts, opens, and intermittent connections
- Module and control system testing — for issues involving vehicle computers
- Intermittent electrical fault diagnosis — the most time-intensive electrical work
